In 1990, the Seattle Sonics drafted one of the most successful point guards in NBA history. With their second overall pick, they chose college star Gary Payton out of Oregon State University. Payton was a three-time All-Pac-10 selection and won both Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Payton's successful college career quickly translated to the NBA as he made an immediate impact with the Sonics. It took him only three games to record his first-ever double-double. Payton flourished in his 17 seasons in the NBA. He was a nine-time All-Star, Defensive Player of the Year, NBA Champion, and a Hall of Famer. In his career, Payton notched 21,813 points, 8,966 assists, and 2,445 steals to earn him his Hall of Fame induction in 2013.
