In 1990, the Seattle Sonics drafted one of the most successful point guards in NBA history. With their second overall pick, they chose college star Gary Payton out of Oregon State University. Payton was a three-time All-Pac-10 selection and won both Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Payton's successful college career quickly translated to the NBA as he made an immediate impact with the Sonics. It took him only three games to record his first-ever double-double. Payton flourished in his 17 seasons in the NBA. He was a nine-time All-Star, Defensive Player of the Year, NBA Champion, and a Hall of Famer. Payton made three final appearances in his career. He went with the Sonics and Lakers but came up short. In 2006, he made a run with the Heat and won his first ever ring. This authentic Spalding basketball is autographed and inscribed "2006 NBA Champs" by Gary Payton with a silver paint pen. Payton's signature and inscription were witnessed by an Upper Deck representative as part of UDA's 5-step authentication process. This item is limited to 25. You will receive a random number from the edition.
