The city of Edmonton is located on the North Saskatchewan River in the Canadian province of Alberta. The river is glacier-fed and bisects the city. The cold winters in Edmonton causes a deep freeze that creates awesome skating options. The capital of Alberta has several nicknames such as Festival City, City of Champions as well as River City. The NHL also has used the term “Oil Country” on merchandise to describe fans of the Edmonton Oilers.
