Going into the 2022 NHL Draft there was a lot of talk surrounding the top five picks and who the Montreal Canadiens would ultimately choose with the top pick. Going somewhat under the radar was when the Buffalo Sabres selected Matt Savoie with the 9th overall pick in the draft. Scouts have praised Savoie's heavy crossover use and his constantly attacking approach. Savoie would begin his post-draft time with the Winnipeg Ice on a tear and he hasn't slowed down. In his first season after the draft with the Ice, Savoie would score 95 points in just 62 games. Savoie would make a brief debut with the Sabres in the 2023-2024 season but would spend most of his time splitting time with the AHL & WHL where he would score 76 points in only 40 games split between 3 teams.
