Emerging as one of the top players in all of the NHL, Connor McDavid faced quite the setback on April 6, 2019 in the Oilers’ game against the Calgary Flames after he went sliding into the net, tearing his PCL in half, rupturing his knee joint lining, and cracking the front of his tibia. Although very risky, McDavid and his team of doctors made the decision to correct his gruesome injury through urgent surgery and expected a minimum of 10 months of recovery time. Being the fiery competitor that he is, Connor nearly cut the rehabilitation time in half through intense training and therapy and found himself back on the ice against the Vancouver Canucks just 6 months later on October 2, 2019. Despite facing some initial struggles in getting back to speed on the ice, McDavid delivered the game winning goal in the 3rd period to give the Oilers a 3-2 victory to start their season. More important than the win, Connor pushing through adversity and making an impact on the ice just 6 months after his career jeopardizing injury gave him the redemption and confidence he needed to not look back and continue his path towards domination in becoming one of the greatest players of our generation.
