When the Edmonton Oilers revealed their Reverse Retro jerseys for the 2022-2023 season it featured a new look and a style completely different from their traditional look. The "Flying Oil Drop" against the dark navy-blue background, a complete departure from the traditional royal blue and orange, actually debuted as an Oilers alternate uniform design during the 2001-2002 season. The original jersey, designed by then part owner Todd McFarlane and creative partner Brent Ashe, was massively popular as it would sell out at stores all around Edmonton.
